Further information

Leave the beaches behind and step into the fascinating timeline of Sardinian history.

Begin with a comfortable pickup in Cagliari, heading north towards the Sinis Peninsula. Your first stop is the breathtaking archaeological site of Tharros. Walk among Corinthian columns and ancient streets with the Mediterranean waves crashing on both sides. Founded by the Phoenicians and expanded by the Romans, these ruins sit on a narrow strip of land overlooking the sea.

Next, fast-forward to a completely different atmosphere. Visit the tiny village of San Salvatore di Sinis. At first glance, it looks like a medieval hamlet, but look closer—you might recognize it from the movies. In the 1960s, this village was transformed into a film set for "Spaghetti Western"." With its low houses and dusty roads, you'll feel like you've stepped into the American Wild West, right in the heart of Sardinia.

After a break for a relaxing lunch (at your own expense) to sample local Sardinian cuisine, drive inland to Fordongianus to visit the ancient Forum Traiani. This was once a major Roman city famous for its healing thermal waters. Explore the incredibly preserved thermal complex dating back to the 1st century AD. See the pools where Roman officials once bathed and learn how these hot springs are still active today.

Return to Cagliari in the late afternoon, leaving you with memories of a Sardinia that few tourists get to see.
